We're coming for ya Instagram!
We previously published a post discussing where we were seeing ticket sales come from. The summary is Instagram was the significant leader in driving butts in seats.
What we didn’t cover in that article was the number of tickets that were incremental sales from Punchup users. These are individuals who came to Punchup to watch content, discovered local events using our "Nearby Shows" feature, or made purchases through Punchup’s email service.
In January 2024 the ticket sales attribution looked like this:
However, since January 2024, Punchup's userbase has grown over 700%. This means a significantly larger number of users are now visiting the site and purchasing tickets for shows they hadn't originally planned to attend. By December, Punchup was driving nearly as many ticket sales as the comedian’s Instagram activity!
That statement might seem surprising, but it becomes clear when you factor in a few key points: emails convert at over 20 times the rate of Instagram posts (and more than 100 times the rate of TikTok posts), our platform is purpose-built to sell tickets rather than promote third-party products, and our comedy focused user base has been doubling every few months.
We have a ton of products rolling out in the next couple months that should only accelerate this trend. We're excited for 2025 to be the year artists recognize the value of investing in platforms with business models that align with their success rather than ones that benefit Procter and Gamble.
